The Helium on lattice team studies the physics of gas on lattice through correlations between individual atoms in velocity space (or pulse space). Correlation signals are obtained from the detection of Helium-4 atoms after a long time of flight. The properties of the Helium-4 atom in a metastable state, low mass and high internal energy, enable the detection of the velocity of each atom at 3D. The team recently observed the pulse-correlated pairs predicted by Bogoliubov for quantum depletion and studied the correlations between a large number of atoms through the Mott transition.

Each blue dot corresponds to the 3D pulse of a single atom detected after a long time of flight.
