EMMANUEL MACRON PRESENTS THE FRENCH STRATEGY FOR QUANTUM TECHNOLOGIES

Jan 25, 2021

French President Emmanuel Macron visited Paris-Saclay University to present France’s quantum strategy.

This strategy is a major challenge for France, which has many assets: major laboratories of excellence, some of which have been awarded Nobel prizes, a large community of companies and industrialists, and the first fund dedicated to quantum technologies.

This move is in line with what has already been put in place over the last 3 years in favor of French research:

  • The law of programming for research ;
  • The future investment program ;
  • The plan “France Relance” ;
  • The plan on artificial intelligence.

The President of the Republic announced the the launch of the national quantum straytegy, which includes:

  • The provision of new resources for researchers, including training, but also for start-ups and manufacturers;
  • The development of quantum computing;
  • Investments in all quantum technologies: communications, sensors, cryptography.

It is also a massive plan:

  • A total of 1.8 billion euros, including 1 billion from the State, for the next 5 years;
  • A plan that positions France at a very good level internationally.

This is an absolutely major effort, which testifies above all to the determination of the Government and the President of the Republic to make France a major player in these technologies at the European and international levels.
